Panda crochet

The size of the panda is 38 cm if using the pointed yarn. If desired, you can make a smaller panda, in the form of a small toy. To do this, use a thinner yarn and a suitable crocheting hook.

For crocheting you need the following:

✓ Blue yarn 110 gr. Himalaya Dolphin Baby 100gr/120 m

White yarn 110 gr. Himalaya Dolphin Baby 100 gr/120 m

Black yarn 20 gr. Himalaya Dolphin Baby 100 gr/120m

Black yarn 20 gr. Thin velour yarn Katia Velvet fine 70 gr/160 m

✓ Safety eyes 16 mm

✓ Crocheting hook 4, 5 mm

✓ A needle to tighten and sew the details, stuffing.

1. All details are crocheted in spiral rounds. This means that the round will NOT be finished with a

slst.

2. Use a stitch marker. A small thread (other colour then your working yarn) helps you counting the

rounds. Just place it at the start of a round on top of your working thread.

Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet

ch – chain

inc – increase, crochet two stitches in one

dec – decrease, crochet two stitches together

3 sc in 1 – crochet 3 sc in 1 stitch of the previous row

3 sc tog – crochet 3 sc together

X dec – X-times decrease

X inc – X-times increase

(---)x – repeat those in brackets Х times

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

Body and Head (Blue color )

Crochet 14 ch, from the 2nd loop from the hook

Crochet 6 sc, move the marker in the middle and mark the new beginning of the round. The marker

goes straightly along the middle of the back. (follow the marker, use the shift stitches)

The beginning of a row shifts t the right while crocheting in the spiral rows.  You need to align the marker so that the proportions of a toy remain symmetrical, decreases and increases remain in their places. To do this every 2-3 rows (depending on the yarn and gauge) we crochet 1 more sc at the end of a row. Place note, we do not crochet additional increases, we only move the marker  so that it goes straight. It turns out that the first stitch of the next row becomes the last in the crocheted row. And the second stitch of the next row becomes the first for this row.

Shift stitch is not included in the total count of stitches.

Eyes (black color)

Thinner yarn is used for the eyes than for the body. I used Katia Velvet Fine.

 The crochet hook 2.  *It is crocheted in rounds. Each row starts with 1 ch and ends with a sl st.

Fasten off, leave enough thread for sewing. I positioned the parts on the left and right between rows 25 and 36 and sewed them on.

Then the safety eyes are attached to the black part at the top. Please check the pictures.

Insert the safety eyes and carefully fasten them moving aside the stuffing inside the head.

Nose (black color) (I also used Katia Velvet Fine for the nose)

Crochet 3 ch, from the 2nd loop from the hook

1. 1 sc , 3 sc in 1, further crochet along the other side of the chain 1 sc, 3 sc in 1 (8)

2. 1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc,  1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc 1 inc, (12)

Fasten off, leave enough thread for sewing .

Sew the nose between both eyes (rows 27-29)

Go down two rows, embroider the mouth.

Crochet the head to the end.

Trouser Pocket (Light Blue)

Crochet 9 ch, from the 2nd loop from the hook:

1. 8 sc, turn the work

2. 1 ch, 1 inc, 6 sc, 1 inc , turn the work (10)

3- 9. 1 ch, 10 sc, at the end of each row please turn the work and crochet 1 ch.

Crochet three sides with sc, not the fourth side.

Fasten off, leave enough thread for sewing.

Sew the pocket on the right or left.

Ears (black color)

Straps (2 pcs blue) : Crochet 18 Ch. sewing.

Tint the eye, nose, and body with a waterproof marker for the fabric. Let dry.

To tint the cheeks I use the pink dry crayons.

Draw with a crayon on the paper, then gather the resulting grains with a brush and apply on the toy

in the necessary places.
