Sea gull, pattern for beginners

Materials:

- Yarn, (acrylic or cotton) of your choice. Required colors: white, yellow and gray.

I used Alize Cotton Gold yarn, 330 m/100 g. My seagull is 10.5 cm tall + 10 cm for legs.

- A crochet hook, I have 1,5 mm crochet hook;

- Hollow fibre for stuffing;

- For eyes: 2 beads, I used beads with a diameter of 4 mm;

- A piece of thick cardboard;

- A sewing needle.

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

inc – increase (2 sc in 1 st)

2 inc, 3 inc – 2, 3 increases in sequence

dec – decrease (single crochet two stitches together)

(...) * N times – repeat instructions in brackets N times

Body-head

Work with white colour yarn. Stuff as you go.

1. 6 sc in a Magic Ring

2. 6 inc = 12

3. 1 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 4 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 1 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 3 sc = 18

4. 2 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 6 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 3 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 4 sc = 24

5. 3 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 8 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 2 sc, 1 sl st, 2 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 5 sc = 30

6. 4 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 10 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 2 sc, 3 sl st, 2 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop, 6 sc = 36

Wings (make 2)

Work with grey colour yarn.

1. 6 ch, starting from 2nd ch from hook: inc, 3 sc, 3 sc in the last stitch, continue along the other side of chain: 3 sc, 3 sc in 1 loop = 14.

2. 6 sc, inc, 7 sc = 15

Add some hollow fiber (optional).

Legs (make 2)

Work with yellow colour yarn

Turning rows: turn the work in the end of each row.

1. 12 ch, starting from 2nd ch from hook: 11 sc, ch, turn = 11

3. 9 sc, ch, turn = 9

4. 3 sc, 3 sc together, 3 sc, ch, turn = 7

9. 3 sc together. Do not cut the thread.

Crocheted leg around as follows: 9 sc, 3 sc into point А, 5 sc, 3 sc в into point В, 4 sc, 3 sc into point С, 10 sc. Do not cut the thread.

Work 35 ch. Fasten off, cut off.

Tie a knot in the middle of the chain – this is the knee. Attach and sew on the legs. Sew the wings on.

Beak

Work with yellow colour yarn

Crochet with the wrong side out.

1. 2 ch, from 2nd ch from hook: 6 sc, work 8 ch = 14

2. starting from 2nd ch from hook: 7 sc, 6 sc around, continue along the other side of chain: 7 sc = 20 (see the pictures for guidance)

3. 20 sc

 Cut off yarn, leave a tail for further operation.

Connect the sides and sew from point A to B. Pull the thread inside the beak back to point A. Attach the beak with dressmaking pins. Sew it on.

Hello, can I ask what you mean in your instructions by "in 1 loop" you use it in your 3rd round. I'm pretty new to crochet but I've never come across this term and can't find anything on google with this specific terminology so a little confused what I'm meant to be doing there. Many thanks
