Knitting: Lace Shawl Birkenlicht

The sunlight shimmers through the leaves in the forest and brings the black and white bark of the birch trees to glow. This special mood has inspired me to the Lace Shawl Birkenlicht. The name means “light of the birch” in German.
This delicate shawl is knit from only 75g of fine lace yarn and offers a feather-light yet warming feel.
The shawl is knitted from the top down, you start with a few stitches, the shape is created by side and middle increases.

Note:
The individual patterns in this shawl are not difficult, but it does take a bit of concentration and practice to knit the patterns across the width of the shawl.

• increases and decreases (ssk, ccd, k2tog)
• slip stitches

Depth at center point: 69 cm / 27 inch

Yarn:
Volksdorf hand dyed by Färbebengel, 800m (875 yd)/100g, 100% wool (merino extrafine, superwash)

Yarn Stubstitution:
Alternatively, any yarn with similar properties, yardage and gauge can be used as a substitute.

Yardage:
Ca. 600 m / 656 yd (ca. 75g) in one color

• US size 5 / 3.75 mm circular needle, or size required to achieve gauge.
