Do you remember the fascination surrounding the Rubik's Cube in the '80s? Everyone had one — some could solve it quickly, while others were left frustrated.
If you enjoy needlework and want to try a new technique, this tutorial is for you. The Doubleface technique is not difficult to learn, but offers the opportunity to create truly unique potholders. Whether for yourself or as a gift for others is up to you. Great for anyone whose fascination with the Rubik's Cube has never ended! The instructions contain four two-page motifs of the cube, as well as a blank one that you can colour in however you like.
The special thing about these potholders is that you can create two completely different sides for one potholder. The technique also makes the potholders nice and thick and therefore insulating excellently. At the same time, you save on sewing the threads - except for the finish - as they are worked directly into the potholder.
If there is anything in the instructions that you do not understand or if you have any questions about the technique, please simply ask by e-mail.
Knowledge and some routine in crocheting (chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch) are required.
Difficulty level: difficult (for advanced/experts)
Knowledge of the double face technique is not required. The technique is explained in detail in the instructions. If you are using this technique for the first time, you should crochet a small test piece first to understand the principle. The main difficulty with these potholders lies in their special shape, which requires increases and decreases in stitching. Crocheting them also requires concentration and patience, as a total of seven colours are used and the front and back have different motifs.
With this download you will receive a detailed, 28-page PDF file with the description and photos of the technique in German and English (US terminology). The description contains the graphic counting templates and colored number blocks for each row. In addition, instructions of the basic technique of doubleface crochet with enlarged photos and a video tutorial are provided.
The finished potholders have a size of approx. 20 cm x 20 cm.
You will need wool in the following colours: green, yellow, red, blue, orange, white and black (e.g. Schachenmayr Catania or similar quality). You will also need a crochet hook that matches the thickness of the wool.
If you like my instructions, I will be happy to receive a positive review.
