Christmas Tree Skirt "Hexie Stars"
A festive tree skirt made of 12 textured hexie stars – joined as you go, so there’s no sewing at the end. Under the tree at Christmas, on your table all through Advent.
This design started with a yarn: when I saw the Hobbii Universe Christmas limited edition, I knew it had to become a tree skirt.
Why you’ll love it
• Join-as-you-go: you join each star to its neighbors in the last round – when the last star is done, your tree skirt is done
• Quick motifs: once you’re in the flow, 4 stars fit into one evening
• Two uses: tree skirt or festive table cover – add a 13th star in the middle for a round Christmas blanket
• Every star is unique thanks to the long gradient yarn
• 25-page PDF with 36 step-by-step photos, stitch counts for every round and all special stitches explained
Finished size (blocked)
Tree skirt approx. 98 cm (38.5") across · each star 23 cm (9")
Want it bigger? Simply add another round of stars.
Yarn – the original is back!
Hobbii Universe Christmas (limited edition), color 24 · 98% acrylic, 2% polyester with a fine glitter thread · 100 g / 462 m
You need approx. 2.5 skeins (approx. 218 g / 1,000 m) for 12 stars.
Prefer cotton?
Scheepjes Catona Chroma in 009 Holly (approx. 8 balls) or Scheepjes Whirlette in 3 solid colors (approx. 3 balls). For some sparkle, hold a fine glitter thread together with your yarn. Please crochet one star first and check its size.
You also need
3 mm hook · tapestry needle · scissors · stitch markers · blocking mats and pins
Skill level: intermediate – confident advanced beginners can do it. Standard stitches plus popcorns, front/back post stitches and dc4tog, all explained with photos.
Blocking is essential: it brings out the star points and the texture.
Written in US terms · available in English and German (separate PDF files)
