Batik Flower Shawl – Crochet Pattern for a Chunky Shawl with Three Flowers

Product description

Batik Flower Shawl

A long, cozy shawl in chunky batik yarn – the yarn creates the color-changing stripes all by itself, so there are no color changes to manage. Finished with three crocheted flowers.

The idea: shawls are often made with fine yarn and take forever. This time I wanted to see how a shawl looks in thick, chunky yarn – it works up quickly and looks gorgeous.

Why you’ll love it
• Stripes all by themselves: batik yarn changes color gradually, so every row brings a new shade – no color changes needed
• A simple rectangle: 38 stitches per row, worked in turn with single crochet, double crochet, crossed double crochet and shell stitch
• Three flowers: 5, 10 and 11 cm, crocheted in rounds and seamed to the shawl – perfect for leftover yarn
• Easy to adapt: make it as long as you like, just keep the 32 cm width. Works with any bulky yarn
• 14-page PDF with stitch counts, all special stitches explained and photos of the stitches, the pattern repeat and the flowers

Finished size
Shawl approx. 276 x 32 cm (108.7 x 12.6") · flowers approx. 5 cm (2"), 10 cm (3.9") and 11 cm (4.3")
Want it shorter or longer? Simply leave out or add rows.

Yarn
WOLLBIENE Batik, color 5100 – grey berry white · 100% polyacrylic, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 · 100 g / 190 m (208 yds)
You need 5 balls (approx. 950 m / 1,040 yds) for the shawl and the flowers.

Other yarn?
Any bulky yarn for a 5–6 mm hook works. Choose a color-changing yarn for the stripes, or a solid color to let the flowers shine. Please keep the width of 32 cm.

You also need
6 mm hook (Clover Armor) · tapestry needle · scissors · stitch markers
Skill level: easy – great for beginners with basic skills. Chains, slip stitches, single, half double and double crochet, plus stacked single crochet, crossed double crochet and shell stitch, all explained.

Tip for neat edges: the stacked single crochet replaces the turning chain and gives you straight, clean edges.
Written in US terms · available in English and German (separate PDF files)
