The GLITTER Hat is created through the interplay of merino yarn and sequin yarn. The knitting process begins with a provisional cast-on, for which an alternative method is also provided. Following this, the entire piece is knitted in the round using only knit stitches.
After removing the provisional cast-on, the knitted fabric is folded and the stitches are knitted together to create a thicker folded brim. Next, the "body" of the hat is knitted followed by shaping the crown with targeted decreases.
At the end, the brim is folded over again, resulting in a total of three knitted layers over the ears. To ensure that the sequins are not uncomfortable against the skin the area in direct contact with the skin is knitted with the merino yarn only. Additionally, the part of the hat that will not be visible after folding is also knitted without sequins to conserve materials.
For techniques related to the provisional cast-on links to relevant YouTube videos are provided.
The entire hat is knitted in the round using only knit stitches. The pattern starts with a provisional cast-on, with an alternative option for a standard cast-on provided. Decreases for the crown are made by knitting stitches together, both normally and twisted.
If you are a knitting beginner, I recommend first testing whether you can manage knitting with two strands, as the sequin thread is less elastic than the merino wool.
