Dear Josefa, dear readers,
I used to do a lot of crafts—including embossing. Embossing basically just means creating a raised impression. You use an embossing stencil and a tool with a small ball on the end. You need cardstock, an embossing stencil, and an embossing stylus. You basically press an impression into the paper. It can look like this, for example (see the bottom edge with the embossed floral ornament):
or the grapevine on the right side of the picture:
There’s also another form of embossing. The embossed or raised appearance is achieved here through stamping. You make a stamped impression using a special ink pad. You then sprinkle embossing powder onto this damp stamped impression. It contains very fine metallic pigments. The particles stick only where the stamped impression is; the rest is tapped off. Then you blow hot air from a heat gun onto the stamped impression, and the metallic pigments fuse with it. The result is a raised, shiny stamped design. In the following image, I made the golden scrollwork this way:
Here, I applied white embossing powder to the stamped impression.
It’s a lovely technique, but you do need some nice stamps for it.
Best regards, Ina
