DIY Knitting pattern cushion cover with diver (shadow knitting)

Product description

The technique of illusion or shadow knitting is very fascinating. If you look directly at the piece of knitting, all you see are stripes. However, if you look flat over the piece of knitting, you can see the image or pattern.

This pillow case is a great gift for divers. One side shows a diver in a cave, the other a diver with a shark. The cushion is knitted in one piece, but it is also possible to knit the two motifs separately and then sew them together.

With this download you will receive a detailed 15-page PDF file in German and English (US terminology). In addition to the graphical representation this file contains a knitting pattern for both motifs (example: Row 1: k1, p5, Row 2: p3, k3 ...). These files are for personal use only!

If you do not understand anything in the instructions or have any questions about the design, please send me an e-mail.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

Basic knowledge of knitting (cast on stitches, knit stitches, purl stitches, cast off stitches) is required.

Basic crochet (chain stitches) and sewing skills are required to assemble the pillow. This is only briefly explained with the help of a diagram.

Level of difficulty: easy (for beginners)

This pillowcase is also suitable for beginners as it only consists of knit and purl stitches. Each row is described individually in the pattern (example: Row 1: k1, p5, Row 2: p3, k3 ...).

Size Information

The finished pillowcase measures approximately 40 cm x 40 cm.

Materials List

The cushion shown is embroidered with Schachenmayr Catania and Catania color (100 % cotton, yarn meterage: 125 m, yarn ball weight: 50 g). Of course, you are free to use any other wool with similar properties.

NOTE: Although both types of wool have the same properties and color distribution, I had to start a third ball of wool for the last 3-4 rows of Catania Denim. So whether you need a third ball depends on how loosely or tightly you knit.

Two to three balls of wool each in contrasting colors
Matching knitting needles
Embroidery or crochet hook (for sewing together)
Possibly a zipper or buttons
Cushion 40 x 40 cm
