I usually crochet my potholders in double face. I have been asked several times if the patterns for double face can be crocheted normally. In principle you can, but the stitches are a little longer in double face than in normal crochet. This is not a problem with some designs, but others look a bit distorted (flattened) when crocheted normally.
So I have reworked my pattern for African potholders for normal crochet. To make the potholders roughly square, I added a few more rows and adjusted the pattern accordingly.
With this download you will receive a 13-page PDF file with the graphic counting templates and colored number blocks for each row. The description contains brief notes on the size differences between doubleface crochet and regular or tapestry crochet in English and German.
Because of the many different colors, these potholders are only suitable for advanced users. The file does not contain general instructions on crochet or the technique of doubleface crochet. This knowledge is assumed. The files are for personal use only!
Knowledge and routine in crochet (chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch, color change) are assumed.
Level of difficulty: middle (for advanced)
The difficulty lies in the variety of colors, some concentration is needed.
The finished potholder measures approximately 18 cm x 16.5 cm and weighs approx. 35 g.
You will need yarn in the following colors: yellow, black, and three shades of orange and red that match. Examples include Schachenmayr Catania (100% cotton, 125 m per 50 g) or similar quality. Each potholder weighs about 35 grams, so you will need just under 10 grams of each color. You will also need a crochet hook that matches the thickness of the yarn.
If you like my instructions, I will be happy to receive a positive review.
