You should be familiar with:

Babies grow at different rates, and your individual crochet tension can also affect the finished size, so this quick check is well worth doing before you continue with the booties.

• yarn in red, white and dark brown (4 ply, approx. 130 yds/1.75 oz or 120 m/50 g)
• crochet hooks D-3 (3.0 mm) and G-6/H-8 (4.5 mm)
• 5–10 safety pins and several stitch markers
• yarn needle for weaving in the ends
• sewing thread in dark brown and red, a small sewing needle and scissors

Classic Christmas red is lovely, but it certainly isn’t your only option. Deep red, burgundy or a completely different color palette can give the booties a whole new look – although keeping that fluffy light-colored cuff will preserve a little of their Santa charm.
