The distinct square shape is achieved by crocheting around three square metal frames. This technique makes the project more advanced and is not recommended as first mantern project for complete beginners.
You should be familiar with the basics of crochet, such as working in rounds, slip stitches, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, increases and decreases.

The pattern is provided as a PDF file and includes 14 pages with lots of full-color images that explain and illustrate every step in detail.

A finished lantern has a length of ~ 25 centimeters (measured without tassel) and a width of 14 centimeters.

Materials Needed
• Crochet hook size 3 mm
• Approx. 160 g of mercerized, cotton yarn (sport/fine) in various colors
(e.g. Catona by Scheepjes, Cotton Quick by Gründl, Capri by Katia,
Limone by Schöller Stahl, Quattro by Lang Yarns, or Cotone by Lana Grossa – all equivalent)
• 3 square metal frames per lantern: 2 × 10 × 10 cm, 1 × 15 × 15 cm
(→ if you can't find these in your country, you can do it yourself out of stable wire!)
• Darning needle
• Optional: beads or bead caps for decorating the tassel
• Optional: LED light with remote, electric tealight, or solar bulb
