This type of sea snail is also called a night gill because they are often buried in the sand during the day and only become active at night. Divers therefore like to call them "nudis" for short. The diver's sign underwater for nudis is similar to the signaled "quotation mark" .
Nudis are hermaphrodites, but need another nudi for fertilization. They lay their eggs in ribbon-like spiral egg packs. Thus, this small animal can lay up to 300 eggs in its lifetime. With their antennae, the nudis can smell and also sense the current. In addition to the antennae, the nudis have various tentacles, which they also use for sensory perception. Through the skin, the nudis can perceive light and dark and thus, for example, recognize the shadows of an enemy or perceive the day-night rhythm.
