Knitting Pattern for Potholders á la Fraser

Something different – A piece of “Outlander” in your kitchen: Double-strand knitted Potholders with Tartan-Look. And as I am one of these Outlander Fans it is of course the Fraser Tartan. If you dont like the colours or in case they dont go well with your kitchen interieur you easily can take different colours.

A special kind of knitting, the more or less small needle size and knitting with double thread provide a compact texture of the potholder.

By the way the motto of the Clan is: Je suis prest („I am ready“)....yep, me too – always for knitting!!

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

Knitting the Tartan pattern is really easy but the result is astonishing. You just need some basics of knitting and crochet. I dont want to reveal more here - everything is well explained in the instructions and also documented with fotos. And you always can ask me for advice.

The following basics would be of an advantage
• knit and purl stitches
• crochet - slip stitches

Size Information

The size is around 19cm x 21cm / 7,5” x 8,3”.

Materials List

Yarn

• Sport (5ply, 12wpi), idealy 100% cotton for potholders
• I knitted my potholders with 8 balls of Catania Originals.
• Attention: The potholders are knitted with double strand. And there will be enough yarn to knit a second pair.

Needles
• Needlesize # 3,5; US 4
• Crochet Hook # 4,5; US 7

Gauge
• 18 Stitches and 26Rows = 10cm / 3,93” (I knit a mit more loose)
The gauge is done after adding the slip-stitches with a crochet hook. In the beginning the fabric is ribbed but once the colored line is added the fabric looks smooth and lies flat. The small needle size, the pinstriping and knitting with double strand provide a nice structure for potholders.
