Honour the legacy of the Women’s Timber Corps with the Lumberjill Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern, a beautiful blend of history and creativity.
You rarely hear about the incredible Lumberjills; the forgotten army of World War II who kept Britain’s timber industry alive. To honour their remarkable contribution, I designed the Lumber Jill Tea Cosy just in time for Victory in Europe Day, celebrating the vital role these women played in the war effort.
This tea cosy transforms your teapot, dressed in her forestry uniform with a smart green beret, beige trousers, and a practical green sweater. In her hands, she grips a long two-woman crosscut saw, ready to fell a tree; though she’ll need another Lumber Jill to lend a hand!
Designed to fit a medium-sized teapot that holds 2 pints, this cosy is knitted in Stylecraft Special DK throughout. However, you can use any double knitting yarn—just be sure to check your tension. The pattern spans five pages and includes helpful photos, plus YouTube video tutorials for trickier sections. Case-sensitive links to these tutorials are provided in the pattern.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a passionate knitter, or simply love unique storytelling through craft, the Lumber Jill Tea Cosy is a meaningful project that stitches history back into the spotlight.
The pattern will be available for digital download as soon as you have completed purchase, so you could start knitting, very soon!
