DST

Embroidery file format

Description

A widely used stitch-based file format for embroidery machines, originally developed by Tajima.

Detailed explanation

DST is one of the most universal formats in the commercial and home embroidery industry, compatible with nearly all machine brands. While it accurately stores stitch coordinates and machine commands like trims or jumps, it does not retain color information. This means the design often displays default colors on machine screens, requiring reliance on a separate color chart or worksheet to choose the correct threads.
