Pattern for Mochila "Anki"/ Single-Thread-Technique of Wayuu

Product description

At first I only offered this manual in German, but then I was asked again and again if I could write it also in English. That's what I did now. But since English is not my mother tongue, I ask for your indulgence, if one or the other mistake should have crept in.

This beautiful mochila is not just a "crocheted bag" or a "crocheted bagpack". It is crocheted in the original Wayuu technique and is so stable that it stands upright by itself. The adjustable shoulder strap can also be used as a cross-body strap so that you have both hands free for important things while shopping or wherever you want to use your mochila. You will be envied for your mochila!

I designed the Mochila "Anki" from photos taken during an African holiday. I was so fascinated by the motif "African burkeas/elephants/sunset" that I thought I should crochet a mochila out of it. This is the result.

This pattern is designed for those who already have experience crocheting a mochila using the Wayuu technique.
It is not a complete pattern for the inexperienced. If you have little or no experience crocheting mochilas but want to crochet this bag, or if you find out that your previous knowledge is not enough, contact me. I will be happy to help you and I am sure that you will reach your aim.

The pattern includes:

  • crochet script for the bottom (incl. representation of the placement of the increases)
  • crochet script for the side
  • weaving script for the shoulder strap
  • crochet script for a crocheted shoulder strap (if you don‘t have a loom)
  • braiding pattern for the Kumihimo Mobidai Cord

Are you going to make a tutorial for how to make the bag and other items you have. I don't think a lot of people know how to do this? I would purchase a tutorial if you make one, thank you, GLoria

Unfortunately, I can't offer tutorials because I lack the necessary equipment.

My tutorials are all written for advanced crocheters. If someone has never crocheted a mochila, I recommend the videos of Marion Verloop on YouTube. She is a great mochila crocheter and her videos are made very understandable and they are in English. Just go to YouTube and type "Marion Verloop" in the search box. The videos will certainly help you.

thanks for the info. A tutorial is just pages of writing on how to do it.

Crocheting a mochila cannot be explained with a written, theoretical tutorial. You can learn the mochila technique either from a person who knows how to do it - for example, your mother, grandmother, acquaintance... - or you have to watch videos that show exactly how to hold the needle, how to handle the threads, how to make the color changes etc.
It's not for nothing that I explicitly pointed out in my description that my patterns are for advanced crocheters ;-)

I can only recommend again to watch the videos of Marion Verloop, or even better: videos/turorials from native Wayuu women. That's how I learned this technique too, and it's the only way to understand this technique if you don't happen to have someone in your neighborhood who can explain it to you.
Crocheting mochilas is a handicraft. You can't equate it with crocheting potholders. It is very difficult.

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. It took me months to understand what the Wayuu Technique really means. And at least 5 or 6 "training mochilas" until I got the first mochila I could call "mochila".

All you have to do is write up the pattern in English, German and sell it. I think you would sell a lot more of this pattern that way.
