Ever since the song “Girl from Ipanema”, the beach of Rio de Janeiro and the neighbourhood with the same name are synonymous worldwide with beach fun and hot flirts. The sun lovers walk along the beach on a wide sidewalk with a mosaic “Calçada Portuguesa”. This first boardwalk of Brasil was finished in 1970 – designed by the way by the German architect Roberto Burle Marx. The influence of Pop Art from the 1960s and 1970s with its organic shapes is obvious.
