Pattern for Mochila „Victoria“/ Single-Thread-Technique of Wayuu“

I originally only offered the German pattern for this Mochila, but I was asked so often to write an english pattern as well. I have done this now, but please note that English is not my native language. I did my very best and hope that you can understand my English.

This beautiful Mini-Mochila is not just a "crochet bag". It is crocheted in the original Wayuu technique and is so stable that it stands upright by itself. The adjustable shoulder strap can also be worn as a cross-body strap so that you have both hands free for important things while shopping or wherever you want to use your mochila. The vivid colors in combination with the appealing pattern emphasises a very lively appearance, and this mochila will certainly be the envy of everyone!

This pattern is designed for those who already have experience with crocheting a mochila using the Wayuu technique.
It is not a complete guide for the inexperienced. If you have little or no experience with crocheting mochilas and still want to crochet this bag, or if you find that your previous knowledge is not enough, write me. I will be happy to help you and I am sure that you will reach your aim.

The pattern includes:

  • 2 different crochet scripts for the bottom (for 10 respectively 12 increases, incl. representation of the placement of the increases)
  • instruction for the side
  • Weaving pattern for the shoulder strap
  • Braiding pattern for the Kumihimo cord
  • separate pattern for a crocheted shoulder strap (if you do not have a loom)

Prerequisites:

Advanced knowledge of crocheting a mochila in the Wayuu technique. You should be able to do the following:

  • Magic Ring
  • crocheting with carrying threads
  • Crochet the bottom with 8, 10 or 12 sections - according to your needs
  • Buttonholes for the cord
  • Read the weaving pattern
  • Covering / work with a Kumihimo braided disc
  • Braiding the macramee tassels

Size:

diameter: 17 cm
hight: 22 cm
length of shoulder strap: ca. 160 cm (+ fringes)

Yarn/equipment:

a) Pro Lana „Basic Cotton“
(100% cotton, mercerized, gassed, barrel length 125m/50g, needle size 3,0 - 3,5)
200 g color 31-red
100 g color 28-orange
100 g color 22-yellow
100 g color 01-white
50 g color 74-lime
b) 1 crochet hook 2,0
I recommend an ergonomic crochet hook, because crocheting a mochila with an
conventional crochet hook is very strenuous.
c) 1 round metal cord stopper
d) 1 pin "handmade"
e) 2 rectangles for bags (PRYM), 40 mm
f) 1 adjustable buckle
g) For the cord:
1 „Kumihimo Mobidai“-Disc
1 Kumihimo-weight
16 Kumihimo-Mobidai bobbins
h) For the shoulder strap:
Loom „Ashford Inkle Loom“
i) Marking thread or stitch marker for round transition.

You can get all the yarn/equipment in my shop. Please contact me if you are interested.
