Zugin, die – substantive, female. A regional word for an accordion, German origin.
Just in case you look this word up in a dictionary and don't find it.

Zugin is a triangle-shaped shawl which is worked from the bottom to the top using an easy slip stitch cable pattern. Although the pattern calls for a light fingering yarn, it can be knitted in any yarn weight and matching needles.

The pattern has been tested by several ladies to make sure everything works as written. They used a variety of yarns. All of them showed beautiful results.

The pattern is written and charted.

Difficulty level: intermediate

Gauge: 27 stitches/38 rows in blocked cables pattern = 10cm (4in).

  • knit and purl
  • yarn overs
  • cable to the right. When working with a cable needle, slip 2 stitches to the cable needle and hold to the back of your work, knit 1 stitch, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle. When working without a cable needle, insert right hand needle into 3rd stitch on your left hand needle and knit, keeping this 1 stitch on the needle. Knit the 2 stitches before and then slip the 3rd stitch from your left hand needle.

145 x 60cm (58 x 24in). This is the size of the sample. The shawl can be worked to any size.

Yarn: Alize Bamboo Fine Batik Design (100% rayon from bamboo; 440m/100g; 481yds/3.53oz), 2 balls. Sample with 145cm (58in) wingspan used 660m (722yds).

    Wunderbare Idee!
