Jochen the Ray – Sewing Pattern & Tutorial (PDF)

Who’s gliding through the kids’ room like a soft, fluffy little airplane? It’s Jochen the ray! He loves exploring the endless wide spaces of a child’s imagination.
With his streamlined shape, he’s perfect for “flying” through the room, and his thin fins wiggle as if he were really swimming.

With this sewing pattern, you can easily make your own little ray. Made from nicky fleece, he becomes wonderfully soft and cuddly.

The pattern includes a printable A4 template and a 7-page, step-by-step photo tutorial.

This is a beginner-friendly project for sewing soft toys and can also be hand-sewn without a sewing machine.

Difficulty level: easy

Made from nicky fleece, Jochen measures approximately 30 cm (12 in) long and 26 cm (10 in) wide.

• Nicky fleece, about 40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 in) each in blue and white
• Safety eyes, 9 or 12 mm
• Stuffing (polyfill)
• Embroidery thread

As an alternative fabric, I recommend cotton nicky, alpine fleece, or other stretchy fabrics (for example, an old T-shirt).
It’s also possible to sew Jochen using non-stretch fabrics (such as regular cotton), but in that case, be sure to clip all seam allowances to help the curves lie flat!
