I was 7 and learned embroidery in Brownies. Over the following years Mom taught me knitting and basic sewing. I learned most skills by following books, doing/practicing and now Internet. I've learned sewing, crochet, knitting, embroidery, needle felting, rug hooking, and more. Still love it all.
Crocheting I started at the age of 31 or 32. My mother in law helped me with the first steps.
Learning to sew was a longer process with some longer pauses. I couldn't learn it from my mother, when I got my first sewing machine at the age of 24, I was lacking confidence to try and the right beginner projects for me.
It took me about 5 years to sign up for a sewing class where I had access to better equipment and help for my first simple skirt. And finally I bought the machine model from that class myself.
