In the following row you crochet in each of your air stitches, depending on the pattern, a single (UK: double) stitch or a double (UK: treble) and your armhole will be perfect. The nice thing about crocheting the jacket from the top is that you don't have to sew on any individual parts, because the sleeves are crocheted on, as well.

Crocheting a jacket from a rectangle

Crocheting a jacket from a rectangle is a wonderful entry-level project for crochet beginners. Because with this jacket you don't have to sew on any parts, either. You'll also save yourself the hassle of increasing and decreasing stitches. You simply crochet a rectangular blanket, which is then folded once lengthwise. Now all you have to do is sew the two narrow sides together as far from the bottom as necessary to leave one armhole open at each fold. If you then pull up your finished jacket in the middle, you can already pull it on. If you fold it over a little at the top, you'll get a nice collar this way. Tunisian crochet jacket

In Tunisian crocheting, in contrast to the traditional crochet practice, you always have all the stitches on the needle in the forward row, which you then crochet off on the back row. In addition, you measure the circumference of your wrist so that you know immediately what width your sleeve has at the lower end. The width at the upper end is already given to you by the armhole. With the help of your gauge you can now also determine how many stitches you need for the upper or lower sleeve width. You decrease the difference evenly over the sleeve length.

Crocheting a sleeveless jacket

If you choose a straight cut, crocheting a sleeveless vest is quite easy. You don't have to increase or decrease stitches for either the front or back parts. Simply crochet all three pieces straight up and sew or crochet them together afterwards. Leave the side seams open at the top so that you can slip through with your arms. How wide you make the armhole is up to you. However, if you do want to add sleeves to your sleeveless jacket later, it is a good idea not to make the armhole too big.

Crocheting a jacket with short sleeves

With a short-sleeved, self-crocheted women’s jacket you have to decide whether you prefer wide sleeves or close-fitting ones. For wide sleeves you can simply make two rectangles that correspond in length to the width of the armhole. The height depends on the length of your sleeves.
